Green Work

Going green at work can be easy. Lots of small things can make a big difference espically if you can get your whole work involved.

Recycle, Re-use and Reduce Paper

Most works places will have a facility to recycle paper. The chances are you will find paper bins next to the standard bins, in these circumstances their really is no excuse.

Although recycling is great, re-use can be better. Try to re-use paper where appropriate, print out on both sides and make use of scrap paper.

Of course better than recycling is to simply not use the paper in the first place. Before you print decide if you really need it. When filling in forms opt out of receiving newsletters or get an e-version delivered straight to your email inbox.

Switch off equipment

This is a simple thing, switch off electrical items when not in use. This is generally computing equipments, the computer, monitor and printers (Although ensure you switch it back on the next day, any savings can be lost by printing out three copies of the same document). Lights should also be switched off when not in use.

Drinks

Rather than using the cafeterias plastic or paper cups use your own mug as you would at home. If you have a kitchen at work use this and it could save you money over buying a cup of tea or coffee each day. Alternatively I'm sure you can get your own cup filled at the coffee bar. If you really have to use a plastic or paper cup try and re-use it. They can probably be used three or four times before being thrown away.

If you are using a water cooler get a bottle or glass and use this rather than the supplied plastic cups.

Green tip...
" Switch off your monitor when you are not using your computer. This includes meetings, lunch and coffee breaks. "
