Green Cycling

Apart from walking, cycling is one of the greenest forms of transport. It is one of the only methods of covering up to 100 miles a day whilst producing absolutely no CO2. These sorts of distances, although certainly possible, are not recommended for the average person. But how far can you travel on your daily commute and how much weight can you carry with you?

This question is very dependent on the build of the person. However a lot of these issues are solved by using the right bike for the right situation. If you wish to cover a fair few miles then you are going to have to travel on the roads. For this you will need a road bike, racing or hybrid. These bikes allow you to travel faster and with a bit practice you could average 15 mph, allowing you to cover 5 miles in only 20 minutes. This also includes your daily exercise saving your time and money down the Gym.

It is not uncommon for the dedicated cyclist to travel 25 miles to works and another 25 back, but we doubt the average person would do that. If your journey to work is similar to this distance and you usually drive then consider driving half the distance and carrying your bike in the boot or if you can, then how about cycling the entire distance into work and getting a lift home?
