Bike Locks
It is a sad fact that if you have an expensive bike it will probably become a target of thieves who will then sell it on in a local pub or market and you will never see it again. Unfortunately the majority of those who have their bike stolen will switch back to driving. So to stay green you need to ensure your bike stays secure.
To effectively secure your bike you need to make your bike the hardest to steal of those in the bike rack. To do this use a couple of quality bike locks and secure everything that has a quick release mechanism. Additionally lock your bike in awkward places, avoid the end of rack where a cycle thief has more space to work. If you use d-locks make sure you fill as much of the space in the D as possible otherwise a thief can use a standard car bottle jack and go through your £50 lock in under a minute.
Finally make sure that your cycle is insured. This can usually be added to your home insurance relatively cheaply and should be seen as an essential.
